1. Origins from India and Hinduism
This belief about Roma people coming from India is strongly dismantled today. Such a "myth" about India origins might have been an anti-Roma construction over the centuries, as to simply assert that Roma people are just strangers, unwished in Europe, and consequently deserving a social ban.
Origins from India doesn't actually make sense, since it's known today that Finnish Kale (Roma people from Finland) are in fact descendants from itinerant people who were deported from the Scottish Kingdom ; that Irish and Scottish travellers are also belonging to the Gipsy transnational community.
2. Oldest ancestors of Gipsies were certainly close to Zoroastrianism, thus "fire worshippers"
Gipsies have never had any strong ties with polytheism, therefore even less with Hinduism.
Alike Hebrews, Gipsies often more believe in one God, often called by them "Creator of the Universe" (this divine title is kept in Judaism, as well).
Two passages of the Bible remain strong landmarks for Gipsies (as for the Jewish Community, with which they have a lot of spiritual believes and traditions in common) : the story of Noah (including the Flood and the access to a new world, messianic prototype and meta-history) ; Moses and the ardent bush (the ardent bush being the reminiscence of the Zoroastrian divine fire).
3. Geographical origins of the Gipsies
Zoroastrianism was born in the Caucasian area, a vast territory which would be Ukraine today. Gipsies are therefore more likely to have Euro-Asian origins. They might have settled down in Central Europe a long time ago before our era, then moving again to other areas, mainly to Persia. From Persia they might have been deported, alike their Hebrew "cousins" ; then more to a region near India. For reasons which aren't truly told by History.
